Trailer Action
It's Friday and the fourth of July week so instead of fighting traffic I took the day off of work. I had lots to do to get ready for this QC road trip that starts tomorrow. Spent the early morning working out gear and clothes for the trip and packing the car. Trying desperately not to forget anything, being older has some disadvantages and one of them is forgetting things. I said goodbye to my darling wife Elisa in the early morning before she went off to work and then at 10:30am said so to Joy before hitting the road for Bethlehem NH. We have a trailer at Applehill Campground that we use as a home base up north. The Campground is a great place with really nice people and I encourage all of you to try camping in the Great North of New Hampshire and to use Applehill.
At the same time I was heading up to the trailer my lovely sister Maryrose was also on her way. She had the worst of the rides coming from Cape Cod. So while I listened to the endless Red Sox talk on the radio ( WEEI BOSTON ), she was sitting in traffic in Boston. I got ahead of her quickly with my route of 128 to route 3 north.
A funny moment for me in this trip came when I saw I had a phone message and checked to hear Maryrose (MR) ask about the directions she was following to the trailer. She said something to the effect ' I took exit forty like the directions said but it isn't Littleton NH, or route 302; its Reading and route 62. I don't know what is going on call me.' I had to call and razz her immediately for this.
I made no stops and got to the trailer in 2 and a half hours. Opened things up to air out the musty smell from being closed up all winter and headed into Littleton for a sandwich. When I returned MR, her kids Jay and Shiela and Aunt Paula had arrived. It was nice to see Paula I don't think I have seen her for several years.
Spent the next bit helping them get their tent up and then took the kids in to Littleton, 1. To give MR a break since she was doing the unpacking for the group and 2. Because I forgot completely to go to Shiela's birthday party the weekend before and felt very guilty. I took them to the toy store and let Shiela picks a present while naturally getting something smaller for Jay since it is a law of nature that two one kid can't get a toy while the other doesn't. It may also be in the uncle's handbook. She was so cute settling after a long while on a spy kit, spy glasses and a new reading book. Jay choose a boom a rang that he promptly lost in the woods a half hour later.
MR coked for us and we had a great hot dog and cheeseburger dinner and then a nice evening chatting before I headed down to the honeymoon sweet for bed. This is the coolest site in the campground isolated yet close to the restroom, open to the sky so don't ask for it on the rainy times. I was asleep by 9pm dreaming of the adventure to come.
